The Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research (JFCR) was founded in 1908 as a non-governmental, non-profit organization to contribute to the human welfare through overcoming the cancer. It launched the first Cancer Institute and its Hospital of Japan in 1934. Since then the Cancer Institute of JFCR has ever been working as a driving force for promotion of cancer research in Japan. It has not only made remarkable achievements in the research but also supplied a large number of talented researchers to national universities and research institutions all over Japan. Currently, in addition to basic researches, it is involved in translational researches to establish tailor-made cancer medicine, in close cooperation with the Cancer Chemotherapy Center, the Genome Center and the Cancer Institute Hospital of JFCR. All the facilities of the JFCR will move to Ariake, Tokyo waterfront city in March, 2005.
