Research Projects

Why could a cell be alive or die? – This is the essential question to understand the life phenomena. Cancer is caused by the disorder of the mechanisms of survival and death. In particular, the survival mechanisms that cancer cells, but not normal cells, possess would be the cause of the uncontrolled growth as well as rational targets for therapy. From these points of view, I have worked on the defect of cell death induction mechanisms in cancer cells and have searched for factors that are involved in the mechanisms as molecular targets of cancer. Presently, we are especially focusing on prostate cancer and the survival factors that are derived from tumor-specific genetic alterations and tumor-selective environment.
