抄録:
Accurate transfer of genetic information through generations is essential for the survival of all forms of life. The centromere is a specialised chromosomal locus that ensures accurate chromosome segregation during cell division by acting as a microtubule attachment site, assembling a large multi-subunit protein complex called the kinetochore. The centromere is defined by the enrichment of histone H3 variant CENP-A-containing nucleosomes. The centromere also serves as a landing platform for mitotic regulators that monitor chromosome-microtubule attachments and ensure the timely onset of chromosome segregation.  Any defects in the maintenance of centromere identity or function will lead to chromosome segregation errors, causing aneuploidy, implicated in cancers. In this talk, I will discuss our recent work combining structural and cellular approaches, which has provided critical mechanistic insights into processes essential for ensuring error-free chromosome segregation.
